Crooked River Estate’s vineyards were planted in 1998, setting the foundation for what has become the largest winery on the South Coast. 12 hectares of vines carefully nurtured to yield premium-quality grapes well suited to the selected varieties grown on the Estate. A short distance from the Pacific Ocean, near the picturesque town of Gerringong , our vineyard benefits from this unique maritime environment. Our terroir creates the perfect conditions for producing exceptional wines that embody the essence of this region.
Our vines are rooted in fertile volcanic soils, rich in minerals that enhance grape quality and flavor complexity. These well-draining soils, combined with careful vineyard management by our viticulturalist, Steve Bottomley, produce grapes of exceptional character and depth.
The cooling coastal breezes temper the summer heat, while the consistent sunshine ensures optimal ripening. This combination creates a balanced climate that is perfect for crafting elegant, fruit-driven wines.
Our vines are hand pruned to promote healthy growth to enhance grape quality. Manual pruning ensures each vine is shaped for the best exposure to sunlight and airflow, reducing disease risk and enhancing fruit development.
Hand-picking all the fruit on the Estate ensures peak ripeness and ensuring only the best quality fruit goes into the exceptional wines produced by our head winemaker, Peter Lane. Gentle handling during harvesting reduces bruising and preserves the integrity of the grapes resulting in fresher, more vibrant flavours.
